La Raza Centro Legal and the services we provide are extremely personal to me. I am a 1st generation Mexican-American living in the United States. My parents are from Zacatepec, Morelos, México and they have been residing in the US for over 25 years. The timing of their arrival resulted in an advantage towards their legal status adjustment, a privilege 11 million undocumented people living in this country currently do not have, and many more wish to obtain. I grew up well aware of the opportunities we had because of this legal advantage and I have made it my personal mission to assist our community and advocate or Immigration Reform that includes ALL OF US and does not further criminalize our families.

In January 2015, I started interning for our newly established Housing Law Program, assisting families facing eviction in San Francisco. During my internship, I was mentored by an amazing Chicana attorney who formally introduced me to the legal structure we were using to defend immigrants and marginalized communities in a complex legal system. As a team, we ensured families had humane living conditions and the process for evictions was legal, formal and respected. Some of these Landlords DO NOT CARE about their tenants and they are only concerned about maximizing their profits, disregarding adequate living arrangements that include underage children. WE MUST PUT A STOP TO THAT!

Later that year, in June 2015, I was offered a position as an Immigration Paralegal, providing direct legal immigration services to families in San Francisco and the Greater Bay Area. At this time, under the guidance of my supervising attorney and mentor who believed in my potential, she encouraged me to partake in legal trainings and pursue my Board of Immigration Accreditation. With my accreditation, I was able to file and represent families at the USCIS Office. My advocacy for the immigrant community grew and as an agency, were an intricate part in all of the pro-immigrant legislation signed in San Francisco and the State of California. Thank you to La Raza Centro Legal, I am able to provide a service that my parents benefitted from when they first arrived to this country. We must continue to be socially responsible and give back!

Now, as the Development Director of La Raza Centro Legal, I have the privilege of raising funds and awareness to sustain all of our legal departments to have a positive impact on our communities! Your contribution means so much to me and the community we serve. I have seen with my own eyes the passion, dedication, and miracles our attorneys and support staff have been able to accomplish - it continuously brings tears to my eyes of FELICIDAD, JOY, and LOVE! This presidential administration has made it clear what their agenda is regarding immigrants living in the country. This is why the time is NOW to put our minds, hearts, and financial contributions together to continue to push for inclusive pro-immigrant policies. Immigrants make America GREAT!
