What La Raza Cento Legal Does

La Raza Centro Legal (LRCL) is a community-based legal organization dedicated to empowering Latino, immigrant and low-income communities of San Francisco and advocating for their civil and human rights. Through its grassroots efforts over the last 45 years, LRCL has provided critical life-changing legal services - at low or no cost - through its four core programs:

  • Housing Law Program: Defending low-income tenants against eviction and potential homelessness. In 2017, LRCL has helped over 60 families stay in their homes, obtain relocation benefits, or negotiate new leases.
  • Immigration Program: Providing direct legal representation to low-income immigrants for citizenship, immigration status adjustments, or trafficking / discrimination cases. LRCL also represents non-detained immigrants in deportation proceedings and provide counsel for unaccompanied minors. Between January 2017 and September 2017, LRCL has completed ~100 adjudicated applications, 350 individual consultations, and served 500 individuals and their families via their bi-monthly clinics.
  • Senior Law Program: Protecting low-income, senior community members against consumer fraud, elder abuse, along with offering services for simple wills and other matters. Since January 2017, we have completed over 120 consultations and represented over 60 individuals.
  • Workers' Rights Program: Providing representation for low-wage workers who've experienced discrimination, exploitation, wage and hour violations, or other workplace issues. Since January 2017, LRCL has recovered $164K in back-wages and settlements for families.

Why I Support LRCL

Our clients face impossible choices each day. Undocumented individuals, mixed status families, and seniors are vulnerable to human, workers, and housing rights violations and many lack the means or ability to advocate for themselves or fight systemic injustices. For the past 45 years, La Raza has been the advocate and voice giving vulnerable communities the choice to fight for their rights--whether that's gaining legal status or securing back-pay for wage violations.

How Your Support Will Help

Even a small donation to LRCL can make a huge impact for the individuals and families we serve:

  • $20: Covers the cost of Certified Mail for a legal application
  • $30: Covers the cost of a Workers' Rights legal consultation with a La Raza attorney
  • $50: Covers the cost of a discovery request for a family facing eviction
  • $100: Covers the costs of a FBI background check and Freedom of Information Act search for a citizenship client
  • $200: Covers the cost of a La Raza attorney's time to provide citizenship application assistance

Thanks in advance for your consideration and support of La Raza Centro Legal.
