$20 covers the cost of Certified Mail for all applications mailed out of our office
$30 covers the cost of a legal consultation with one of La Raza Centro Legal's Housing, Immigration, Workers' Rights or Senior Law attorneys
$50 covers the cost of serving discovery requests for a family facing eviction proceedings
$100 covers the costs of a FBI background check and Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) searches for Citizenship clients
$150 covers the cost of one-hour of Interpretation Services for a monolingual client receiving La Raza services
$200 covers the cost of a La Raza Immigration Attorney or Accredited Representative assisting with filling out Citizenship applications, studying for the exam or receive Disability Certification Waiver, and appear at the Immigration Office for representation
$750 helps with processing Power of Attorney and Wills & Trusts for a Senior Law Client
$1,000 covers the costs of a deposition for a Housing Law Client
Who are we?
La Raza Centro Legal is a community-based legal organization dedicated to empowering Latino, immigrant and low-income communities of San Francisco to advocate for their civil and human rights. We combine legal services and advocacy to build grassroots power and alliances towards creating a movement for a just society.
Our four areas of law are:
Workers' Rights Program - We represent low-wage workers who are vulnerable to exploitation in the workplace, wage and hour claims, discrimination, and other workplace issues. Since January, we have recovered $164,187 in back-wages and settlements for families
Immigration Program - We provide direct legal representation to low-income immigrants who seek to apply for citizenship, who seek to adjust their immigration status, who are victims of trafficking or discrimination, additionally we provide representation for non-detained immigrants in deportation proceedings as well as provide counsel for Unaccompanied minors with an age range of 3 to 16 years old while we tackle many other matters impacting low-income immigrants. Since January 2017 to September 2017, we have successfully provided counsel and advice to over 350 individuals internally while our bi-monthly clinics have provided service to over 500 individuals and families, and have a total of 96 adjudicated applications!
Housing Law Program- We are dedicated to defending low income tenants against eviction. Their goal is to protect their clients from homelessness. This year, we have currently helped over 60 families stay in their homes, receive relocation benefits, and/or have negotiated new contract agreements
Senior Law Program- We provide legal representation to low-income elderly members of our community in the areas of consumer fraud, elder abuse, simple wills, and other matters. Since January 2017, we have provide consultations to over 120 senior citizens while providing representation in Consumer Finance, Housing, Immigration, Income Maintenance to over 60 individuals
